This is a short update to outline what our product roadmap is looking like at the moment.
Our focus in the past months has been to complete the cloud synchronisation engine for Zenreader which will allow you to sync projects across your devices in real-time. The reason it’s taking long is because we want to give you the ability to work on your projects offline (which adds a lot of complexity in the data sync) and we wanted our engine to be ready for team collaboration.
With this update we want to outline what are the key major features that are planned in the future (these are in no particular order, except for cloud sync being the next major release).
We encourage all of our users to share feedback with us: what they enjoy about Zenreader and what can be improved. All of our software updates include some of the requested features or suggestions from our users. You can share your thoughts on our support portal - we will prioritise feature requests that are most popular.

Zenreader Roadmap
Cloud Sync
We entered the testing phase for the cloud sync in February 2022. We aim to wrap this up in coming weeks and open up this major update as a beta release. This release will not include collaboration out of the box, but you can request this on a per-project basis!
Once cloud sync is released, we can work on an update for collaboration which will involve adding features to invite colleagues to work on the same project together.
Bibliography & Citation Rework
We have received a lot of feedback on the bibliography/citation/reference management system. There are some features we aim to work on in a big update:
  • Automatic detection of bibliographic metadata if DOI codes (or similar) are detected in the documents
  • Exposing more bibliography fields in the sidebar
  • Adding more Citation Styles
  • Better integration with existing Reference Managers (Zotero, for example)
  • Better export functionality
Tablet version of Zenreader
We know many of you use tablets for reading and annotating documents. We aim to explore releasing a version of Zenreader for tablet. Initially the focus of this version will be on the reading and highlighting functionality.
Improved exports
We have received much feedback on the export functionality. It is really important to us that you are all able to export your notes and work outside of Zenreader in the most efficient and effective way possible since our objective is to help you be really productive. To this end we will explore better ways to generate exports and integrate better with other softwares and technologies such as Word, Evernote, OneNote, Obsidian, Notion, Roam Research and Google Drive.
